Melissa de la Cruz Pocket Bitti Pit Bull Terrier Young - Adoption, Rescue for sale in Manhattan, New York

1y 37lbs of Pocket Bitti low rider (Boston Pitti)

Named after a well known author of young adult fiction, our Melissa de la Cruz has a lot to live up to, and she does it with panache! She's a tiny little thing; her coat is so magnificent that people stop to watch us walk by. It's unique, it's stunning, it looks like she was painted by the finest master artist, and certainly painted with love.

Melissa is so quiet when we meet, happy to be out for a potty walk, and then lovely on leash until a pigeon or squirrel crosses our path (so we are thinking no small dogs or cats). OK, so she's not perfect!

Melissa loves seeing other dogs in the street, and in her first playgroup, enjoyed some bouncy play with a male.

Quietly and efficiently, she showed me her sit and down, all for treats which she nom noms so gently from my fingers. She's an absolute doll. I'm not only mesmerized by her unique beauty, but also by her sweet and gentle personality. Melissa should come with a label reading: made with love and care for the connoisseur of all finethings. Our petite striped beauty is waiting for a happy furever home and because of her unique coloring, goes w/ any decor!

Melissa is stunning - her coat is a show stopper. Everyone stops to admire how gorgeous she is.
She's a young, high-energy, playful girl. We've been told she's 1 year old & weighs under 40 lbs. She loooves her toys... ropes, balls, and squishies alike. She'll eagerly bring you her toy for tug-o-war. In fact, she does this with her bones too! She'll even "play" with her bone- bouncing around them playfully. She'll do best with an active family.
When giving her treats, she is very gentle- taking them gingerly out of our hands. She loves to show off her tricks: "sit", "stay", "paw". She's learning "lay" now too.
She seems to be eager to learn. We are teaching her leash manners, and her sidewalk walking has improved over the course of a couple days, but still needs work. She has also learned the word "drop" to drop her toy for play.
She's very playful with other dogs- big and small, male and female. She loves company, and dog runs/parks are a good place for her to let out energy. She loves to play fetch. She is pulling on leash when with other dogs, but getting a bit better on walks.
She is crate trained. She is quiet through the night-- no whimpering. She is fine with cars. When you open the car door, she'll jump right in, and she isn't scared of the drive. Imprtantly, she is house trained too- she's had zero accidents!
After playtime, she will enjoy sitting next to you on the couch for a neck or tummy rub. She may squish her face into you too to make sure you're still by her side.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, you can always donate!
