Clinical Practice Nurse (Obstetrics/ Gynecology in Manhattan, New York

Under the direction of the Physicians for the Faculty Practice and indirect supervision of the Operations Administrator, the Clinical Practice Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients seen by WCMA Faculty Group practice. This position performs all professional nursing care responsibilities according to guidelines established by the American Nurses Association Standards of Clinical Practice and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Works collaboratively with multidisciplinary health care team.
 
 
Position Activities
*Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatment in accordance with nursing standards. Maintains acceptable standards of patient care. Prepares equipment and assists physicians during examination, testing and treatment of patients, as needed.
*Coordinates the care of patients seen in the outpatient setting at WCMA. Maintains flow of patients, delegates appropriate tasks to clinical technicians, provides guidelines and support; ensures preferences are given to patients in emergency situations, as needed.
*Maintains and reviews patient records, charts and other pertinent information, posts tests and examination results; maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting. Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physician.
*Triage patient care.  Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls; instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
*Provides relevant health teaching and treatment plans to patients. Arranges for patient testing and admissions.  Provides pre- and post- procedure test instructions; ensures that the patient understands and follows instructions.
*Initiates and implements patient care plans.   Accurately and promptly implements physician's orders.  Coordinates patient referrals and care to and from Specialists.
*Manages lab work conducted in the practice.  Ensures physician orders are followed and lab work is sent properly; tracks all incoming lab results and follows-up on overdue and missing results and reviews reports not in Epic and communicating abnormal results to the physicians.
*Assists clinical staff in patient care as needed-take history and vital signs, urine and other specimen collection, and venipuncture, immunizations and other injections.
*Participates in safety programs and orientation of new staff; assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.  Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures
*Reviews the daily appointment schedules and manages patient flow.
 
 
*Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
 
Minimum Requirements
*Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
 
*New York State Registered Nurse license.
 
*A minimum of three years experience as staff nurse in a physician office or hospital setting.
*ACLS BCLS certified.
 
Highly Desired Requirements
*Electronic fetal monitoring certification.
*Experience working in Labor and Delivery.
*Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.
 
 
Skill and Abilities
*Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituencies and exercise "people skills".
